Will's sister Gracie has gone to the Rainbow Bridge. We had a horrible week with a sudden severe illness and lost our precious Gracie. Will seems pretty lost and my heart is broken. She was the kindest most loving dog and stayed that way through the end. Although I know she has to be in a better place it is sooo dang hard to be without her here. Here is a recent picture of Gracie - as you can see she was a beautiful dog - and her beauty ran so deep. She spent the last year and a half of her life teaching Will the ways of life and how to be a good dog as well. I hope I can do things right to help him through his grief as well. Another earth angle has passed....

My thoughts and prayers are with you and Will. The pain is unbelievable, I know. Look up in the clouds and you will see Gracie looking down on you. Her spirit and love will live on forever.

God Bless

Thank you all so much for your thoughts and kind words. Today has been horrible - beyond words... We had to get up and I could hardly get out of bed because I knew she wasn't here. This evening we had to take our first walk without her - I cried and Will was quite different, he was very jumpy about noise - like scared easy. He had never done that before, but all in all I still think he enjoyed his walk. Everytime we go out he is so excited like he is going to find her - and then there is a pause like he is confused. Then when we come back in he charges like he is going to find her inside and then again - the pause and confusion. Just breaks my heart on so many levels - for me, for him, for her....... I begged her to send me some kind of sign that everything is okay - sure hope she is able to somehow. They give us such a deep and sincere love - I just hate that we can't have them any longer than we get to. I know I am feeling sorry for myself but 9 years just feels like I was short changed again. I love them so much and do everything I can to make their lives happy, healthy, fun and comfortable and now I have lost 2 dogs in less than 2 years, one 4 years old and one 9.... Of course I wouldn't change having had them and their love so I know it is what it is. Anyhow, I am thankful for this kind place to vent - somehow it helps. Linda

She looks so strong and gentle in her picture. I am so sorry. She must have been a wonderful friend for Will, and a wonderful family member for you and your family. Have been there too myself, with a sweet seven-year-old pup that left too soon. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. Thank you so much for sharing your memories and thoughts of Gracie.

i know the feelings you describe, and i often remind myself of this: housepets have one great thing going for them in this world, which is that they have a chance of spending their whole lives in the care of one beloved person. we will never know that, as we normally lose our parents at mid-life and generally spend our whole lives switching from the care of older loved ones who leave us to younger loved ones whom we will leave. but a cat or dog has a chance to be carried by one person as puppy and held by that same person at the end of their lives. it is a wonderful gift for them --but comes at a very high price for us! for them to have this gift, they must leave us behind. i think we must celebrate their gift and do all we can to enhance it. it is part of the natural order.

i can tell from your post that gracie is still with you. she has already given you the sign you wanted. i also believe that we will all see all our friends again.

Linda, I am so very sorry for the loss of Gracie. She was a beautiful dog and you can see the kindness and gentleness in her face. I truly believe she is with you - as are all the beloved pets who have gone to the Rainbow Bridge. You were so blessed to have her and SHE was blessed to have spent a lifetime being loved by you.

I am so sorry for your loss. We all want to be able to say something, anything, to help you and make things better but I have been there before and know that it is easier said than done. Just know that although I cannot find the words to express my sympathy, I have been in your situation before and I know the pain that you are feeling right now. I don't think we ever stop missing them but in time, it will get easier. Take comfort in knowing that you gave Gracie a wonderful life. I will keep you, Will and the rest of your family in my thoughts and prayers. Again, I am so sorry.
