I am amazed. Our 8 month old Buzz can destroy ANYTHING. He has chewed to tiny bits every toy we have given him, including a puppy kong, a red kong, and now he already has begun tearing little pieces off the "indestructible" black kong and he's only had it a day! Instead of licking the treats out, he goes about widening the opening! We also got him something called the "hard core fire hose" squeaker toy (he LOVES squeakers), thinking this would be the ultimate in squeaky toy durability. 20 minutes after we gave it to him, he had torn the fabric enough that the plastic squeaker was poking out.

He eats little pieces he has torn off his toys, and it leads to some colorful and stringy poop the next day!

Do others have this problem? He loves the squeaker toys so much I feel bad taking them all away. What are some durable toys people can recommend?

thanks!
keegan

Angel hasnt destoryed kongs she loves them but shes broke her squeaky balls where they dont squeak anymore, she had a cotton bone torn the squeaky ball out of it, and of course my shoes, drafting pencils, christmas tree lights, wrapping papper, antique chair are all game to chew. you just have to keep an eye on them when they play other wise they wont have any toys b/c they will have destroyed them all.

I've never used Kongs before but trust me - I've YET to find a toy that Scully won't chew into. A friend of mine is always buying her these "talking" stuffed animals and sooner or later (mostly sooner) we'll find her with it between her front paws and she's licking it and chewing on it. Grandmom is always sewing them back up again.

I had bought something at PetSmart that was supposed to be an indestructible toy - NOT!

a small Tirebiter might be tough enough. also a Jolly Ball.
also Hartz makes a "kong" that is harder than the Kong and it holds up better. You can buy them at Walmart.

Hmmmm...Scout is my chewer, but she doesn't destroy the Kongs. Soft toys are another whole story!
The only thing I can suggest is watching very carefully and take away the Kong's when she starts ripping them apart.

Buzz Saw Barney has met his match! Meet Buzz Saw Buzz!!!

Barney has destroyed every toy but 2: Green Bear, who I think he believes is his litter mate, and his blue Nylabone "kong". I stuff that thing with anything I can think of to keep him occupied and so far it is still intact. Cloth toys? Forget it. I got him a stuffed plush bear the other day and he had that thing shredded and destuffed in 15 minutes!!

If you do find a toy that stands up to heavy duty chewing, PM me and let me know what it is!!!

Keegan,

I've had good luck with all of my dogs with the Kong. However, the company has a 30 day refund policy shown on their website. The directions for a refund were on the bottom of the user guide for the Kong toy.

Hopefully you haven't tossed it out just yet so you can get your money back.

I watched Chewie TRY to destroy a red kong - well maybe he wasn't really trying but he sure looked like it.

He normally destroys any soft toy we give him, but he has left one in tacks. It's a bone shaped squeeky that he loves to just walk around making squeek.

Packy chewed up Kongs, too. The only Kong he hasn't destroyed is the red Kong Stuff-a-Ball that you put treats in. It's not completely round, so it has a strange bounce when it lands, making it harder for him to figure out where it's going. He also really likes the orange Tricky Treats ball by Omega Paw that somebody else posted. We got it at Petsmart and it seems to be holding up. Forget the stuffed toys with squeakies -- he loves them but they're dead in minutes.

I don't know if this destruction thing that our Cairns do has to do with age or personality but for some reason neither Elliott nor Maddy were able to destroy these.

They make a "frisbee/glider" too that has been undestructable in my house too.

Thanks for the post, I was getting desperate. My Rickie chews up all toys and my Shih Tzu is upset because she can't enjoy a plushy toy and mopes around. I will try the treat ball out and see if that will entertain him enough. You would think the Boxer could do that but he tires of Rick as well.

Zekey and Gavin are fine with the Kongs, they just lick them to bits. But the orange treat ball? It's funny, Zekey didn't understand how to use it, so he took the short cut and just chewed right through the thing!
