When Kipper went into the vet on Monday he weighed 17lbs. The ones I see at shows tend to be smaller than he is.

Let me begin by saying I am no expert.

There are lots of differences between Cairns. Size is one of the many. Rebel is a big boy now being he is 22 lbs but if I rub his side I feel his ribs. He went to the vet and she said he is fine. Sugar is tiny compared to him. She moves between 13.2 and 13.6 lbs. She is 9 7/8 at the withers and is little over 14 inches in length.

I use to worry a great deal about Sugar's size because she was so much smaller than the ones you typically see in my area.. Having both a large and small Cairn I can see a place for both. I wonder if someday you will see the Cairn divided like the beagles, by size?

Honestly, I will have to admit I am very sensitive about Sugar’s size. I shed many a tears when told she is too small by well meaning breeders, who liked the larger cairns. I did research before I got her and knew she would be closer to the originally bred Cairns and that is what I wanted.

I think you have to consider other things, I wanted one with a jaw wide enough to hold the pretty teeth and have a good bite, one with a good hard coat, one that has good movement, one that’s tail was set nicely on the back, one that had some of that feisty personality but also the sweetness with people. I wanted a healthy Cairn with no history in the line of health or genetic problems. I wanted a Cairn that when you look at it you don’t know why it looks good…it just does! I wanted a Cairn that would steal your heart.

I have two wonderful very different Cairns. Both Rebel and Sugar are well breed Cairns. They are from different lines. Just different, kinda like all of us but all related. :D

Now here are my two side by side. Sugar is going on 10 months but she just finished going in season so she shouldn't get much larger. I just took these pictures.

I love your pics of Rebel and Sugar. I agree w/ you on size. Mine range from 13 lbs to 20 lbs (give or take a pound) and I love them all the same. I wouldn't trade them for $$$$$$$$.

Olie and Teddy here.

Our dad, Elrod MacDougall is a big bruiser, and so are we.

Olie, 24 pounds
Teddy, 20.2 pounds

(Teddy's Mom is slightly smaller than my Mom. )

We're both very muscular and energetic...no stopping the Wilk family.

I weighed Maggie on our home scale at 12lbs, which was what she was at the vet last year... she is about 12" long... her parents are both breed standard in size... BUT i can tell you when she looks in the mirror she see a 100 pound cairn looking back at her!! ...what else can explain her picking on (playing with) the boxers and bouvier in the park!?...she's a bit of a bully and even made a choc. lab roll over for her -her 'hunting vested' owner was bit dissapointed!!hahaha!! ...thats my girl!!

Ok, I've been debating whether to post my babies weights or not. I know they are both cairns, but compared to all of the others here they are giants.

Grania - 25lbs

Duncan - 35lbs

And neither of them look extremely overweight.

Wow Sophie is like Sugar....she is small especially compared to some of the folks on this list. I sometimes feel shy with her size, but she is healthy as a horse...just small

Missy was around 25 pounds. Not really over weight she was stocky and solid.
Once diabetes hit at age 13 we got her down to 16 pounds. I think the weight lose gave me extra years with her. She passed at age 17

Now, Kramer he is smaller. He weighs around 14 pounds but he is built different than Missy. Missy was my princess and Kramer now he is the king.
There both beautiful. Remember size dont matter! LOL

We're going to have to amend our previous answer to this question. Since we've been dieting we've gotten svelter.

I, Olie went from 24 to 20 lbs.
Teddy went from 20 to 18 lbs.

It's going to get harder for Mommy Beas' to tell us apart! (heh, heh :) )

Olie, posting for Teddy and myself

Appropriate question for Forum Support sub-forum.

Anyway, you'll have to either get image hosting somewhere and start linking images with the IMG tag, or go into MyControls and the attachments section and delete enough previous attachments to make room.

Our Petey is 20+ while Belle is 15 lbs or so.

Actually Ive read that a smallish bitch or two were really considered invaluable as part of a working pack. Sometimes the smaller pups just beginng to work with the pack would go down into places while hunting and couldn't find there way out and only a small adult dog could get to them to show them out.
