A typical day in the life of Digby is, my owner (a complete pain in the a**) and I often go for hikes down this trail where there are so many Chipmunks my brain practically explodes because I don't know which one to chase first. Then I come home and usually take up a considerable amount of space sleeping on the couch and snore like a chainsaw, and expose myself by laying on my back. Then I wake up and eat as much food as that cheapskate Owner will give me, still waiting for him to catch on to the fact I can eat alot more. Then I usually cap off my evening by playing, and watching TV...Yes watching TV I said, I like to watch Dog shows, or shows with Dogs in them, very interesting, really head-turning. At the end of the day I hit the hay with my owner and his owner (Wife), and we all cuddle up on the bed and sleep happily ever after. Truth is, I snore all night and take up so much of the bed they had to get a King to accomodate me.

BTW, will you be doing the book or talk show circuit to explain your methods of humanoid training? I'd bet Oprah would love to have you on her show. Just think - you could get your own Cairnmobile or some other fab gift from her!

I am new to the site and new to the life of the Cairn World. So far it has been a great ride. I have had Zoey for just over 1 month and she is 13 weeks old. What a great idea it was to venture into the "pet owner category".
We had poodles and goldens growing up and I always thought Id get a pet as an adult but for some reason I put the decision off until just recently and I am in my mid 30s ! I am not sure how I stumbled onto the Cairn breed but I am so happy I did. I had never heard of them prior to the day or two before going to pick up Zoey. They are like a diamond in the rough !!!!
Driving home from the breeders I was a nervous wreck and thought I had gotten myself into something I wouldn't be able to handle. The commitment of raising a dog. However, a month later I wouldn't trade her for the world. She is the love of my life !!
My name is Jen and I seem to be the only single person on the site -- however I have hope. I figure I just now found little miss perfect puppy .. so maybe Mr Right is just around the corner too. He better be a Cairn lover though !!
I am a special education teacher and live in the great white state of Maine. I have been teaching for just over 10 years and living in Maine for about 20. We grew up in Va.
Thanks for all the great info and advice you all have given about the life and care of Cairns. It has been a great help. Also, its been nice getting to "know" you through this thread,
Happy Cairning !!

My husband's name is Bill. He is 34, and a plumber. I can't believe the number of people in law enforcement on this site. When I met Bill, he had helped a friend open a restaurant and was cooking there as well as another restaurant. Shortly after that he went to the police academy and worked as a police officer for a couple years. It is hard to get a decent job as a police officer here in Pittsburgh, PA (right outside of Pgh actually), so he eventually took the test to become a plumber. He finished his 5 year apprenticeship this spring so now he's a journeyman. We've got cooking, security and home repair wrapped up at our house!
I am 37 and worked as a speech therapist for almost 10 years, before I finished my master's and now work as an Occupational Therapist. I've been an OT for 6 years now. I work in a school for kids with special needs, ranging in age from 3 yrs to 21 yrs. and love it. The pay isn't great, but you can't beat the school schedule--especially with kids.
Bill and I have 2 daughters -- Samantha, age 3, and Kaylie, age 17 mos. They were part of our decision to get a Cairn. We wanted a dog that was smaller, but sturdy and that was good with kids. We could not have asked for a better dog than Angus. The girls adore him and he is SO good with them.
I don't have much time for hobbies anymore, although it is getting a little better. Bill was in school 2 or 3 nights a week for the last 5 years, so now that he's done we've had a bit more free time. I like to read, belong to an Irish-American women's group, I'm learning to knit, and Angus and I just started his first obedience class this week. I guess that is it! It has been good getting to know you all since joining this forum in April!

Our Cairn Terrier came to live with us the end of August. Paragon's Bearchan Caimbuel, better know as Bear, is 4 1/2 months old (18 weeks). We were working with a breeder and had expected to get a puppy from her in the spring. She offered to check around with other breeders on the chance we could get a puppy sooner. As luck would have it, she called that a breeder friend had a male puppy if we wanted him. I called the breeder, and 2 days later we drove to western Iowa to get him. My husband won't soon let me forget that we drove 800 miles round trip to get this puppy for me. True love is grand. Anyway from the first moment, we found out about him until the present, Bear has brought us joy and love. He's adorable.
Ok, about me....My name is Marge. I am a middle aged woman...57 years on this earth. My husband and I have been married for 27 years. We live in Wisconsin in a rural area about 35 miles north of Madison. I am a teacher and work as a substitute teacher for our local school district. My husband is self employed in the insurance, financial, and investment field. We have 3 children....a 27 year old son who is an electrical engineer and lives and works in Illinois, a 23 year old son who returned to college this past year and hopes to become a minister, and a 20 year old daughter who is a junior in college majoring in early childhood education. My other passion, besides my little Bear, is music. Specifically, I play guitar and sing. I am fortunate to have several Taylor guitars. My house is a mess because I have this habit of choosing to either play with Bear or play with my guitars. Priorities! I've learned it's much more important to enjoy life than obsess over dust. As to other dogs in our family, we recently lost our 2 Golden Retrievers....our 14 yr old had to be put down and then a few weeks later, our 5 year old died of undetected heart disease. We also adopted my Mom's dog 3 years ago, a Sheltie-Cocker mix named Savannah, when my Mom became ill. So, at present we have the 2 dogs...Bear and Savannah. In the spring, we will be getting another Golden Retriever puppy. DH misses his big dogs. I admit I do, too. A second Cairn will have to wait.
This thread has been delightful. I have read and enjoyed so many of your posts. Now with getting to know more about you, made me want to join in and finally introduce myself. I have also enjoyed the pictures of your beautiful Cairns. I hope to learn how to post pictures so I can show off my little boy. I do want to thank you for sharing your knowledge and experiences with your dogs. It has been so helpful to me. Thank you.
MAKE it a GREAT day!!!
Marge
