...on hand stripping Divot myself. He is at the groomer's as I type. They said it will take 4-5 hours (yikes! Does that sound right?!) for a full hand stripping. I printed out the head page posted by bradl (thanks for that post!) along with a couple of cairn pics showing a nice grooming. Keep your fingers crossed that we're pleased when he comes home.

Yep - hours. Send us a pic when you get him back. You are lucky to find a groomer willing to strip him.

Really most people in our area doesn't know what a Cairn is much less stripping. If you were to tell a groomer around here that you wanted your dog stripped they would shave it bald. Not that I have anything against bald just not on a Cairn!

I hope they do a really good job on Divot. 4 to 5 hours sounds about right. It takes me longer than that but I am new at it and I take my time. I'm not on the clock like a groomer is. hehehe

I'd love to see a photo of Divot after his trip to the stylist. 4-5 hours doesn't seem out of line at all. I can only work on Buffy for 15-20 minutes before she starts to put up a major fuss. As a result, she's always about 1/8 stripped and 7/8 yak.

I just called. He still has about an hour to go. It's so weird not having him home today. I really miss the little guy!

After reading all the shaving stories on here, I was really careful where I tried. I must have called 12 different shops. I will say that it's name is homage to the Wizard of Oz, so maybe that is why?

Batteries are charging for the camera. Let's just say that I'm a little in shock and a little disapointed. They got his face wrong, imho. And I see evidence of where they clipped his face, rather than strip it. BUT I feel like now I have a shot at keeping him hand stripped myself, now that it's so short and not as overwhelming. And his coat color is so light now! He doesn't look like my dog! The kids love his look, but I'm missing my little yak. :( At least they didn't shave him, right? And it will grow back. And I'll adjust to his new look. Pics to come when the batteries are charged.

Can't wait to see the pictures! I really really wanted to strip Ripley....but I gave up too. She really doesn't like it! I'll do what I can myself and if I ever find a groomer who can help out- I will definitely consider doing the same!

Looking forward to seeing the photos. FYI, I have Gus stripped by his breeder. She only does "her puppies". It takes her about 2 1/2 hours but she is a Cairn pro. She does not strip the face unless they are show dogs; uses scissors on face, ears and paws. She hardly charges anything, really does it for love. I am lucky. He only gets stripped twice a year, I trim his eyebrows in between. It's funny how some people (sons) prefer the yak look and others (BF, granddaughter) like him freshly groomed.
