I started out so strong. Yes, today I was going to make progress. Get rid of this tax preparation pressure and get my poop in a group. But then I looked at the clock and it popped into my head, "Oh, AKC Nationals are on. OK, I'll just take a couple minutes to see what's up." Well that was an hour an a half ago. Time flies when you're enjoying yourself. They finally got to the terriers and our little Cairn was there, but they barely showed him. (which was fine in my book) but I would of liked to of got a better look at him. I really liked the Border terrier and the Austrailian terrier - cute little rascals. The winner was the Wirefox. Just thought I would touch base with you all. OK - TV off - I am in the books - yuk.

I watched, annoyed, thru all the groups until they got to the terriers, short shrifted most of them, picked the usual Stafforshire to show they were Politically Correct, and just gave a glimpse of the Cairn--then, in anger, turn off the Eukanuba Cup. First I had to endure the sight of the purposely deformed German Sheperd (that awful stooped slope to the back) and the Toy Poodle's contrived "puffs". I shouldn't be allowed to watch dog shows--the babble of the announcers is bad enough but the addition of forty eleven "new" breeds is just too much.
Ok, rant over. Wish I could have gotten a closer look at the Cairn--after watching a couple of hours, I was disappointed.

I agree. I was disappointed too. I did not like the German Sheperd's cripple like walk either - no thank you. And I too do not like the half shaved poodle puffs. We should of watched it together. .... and then you could of helped sort through paperwork.

Yup... how pathetic to breed an animal to the point of turning it into a cripple! I get really angry also at the horrid and pathetic things that are happening in the show ring... all for some persons idea of beauty.... ahhh I could rant on forever... but I had better not.

Lori, you and I watching together would put an early thaw into the Dakotas! Probably flood Fargo right off the face of the earth. I am good with taxes tho--every dollar spent is a legitimate business expense, another year with no money made!

Ugh! You guys had to remind me of taxes, didn't you? I've been in denial but I suppose it's time to hunker down and deal with it. Unless Buffy would prefer to play tug-o-war or go for a walk . . .

Got a quick glimpse of the Cairn and saw the Terrier win, then fell asleep so I didn't have to cringe at the others. Westminster coming up and I'll watch that. A local dog (well, from my hometown area anyway) is competing, the Boston Terrier.

But back on topic, it distresses me that so many breeds have been bred in ways that make their quality of life such a struggle. Organizations that are meant to look out for the welfare of these animals purposely create breed standards that are so contrary to nature you end up with shepherds with a lifetime of joint problems, bulldogs who live shortened lives where they can barely breath, boxers who are almost guaranteed to have cancer . . . it's just blatantly unfair to the dogs.

I went to AKC.org and visited the Cairn terrier. He was cute, but lacked the personality and even the looks of ours.

Love your little Cairn at the table. "Could you pull that plate a little closer please and fill r' up." So cute.
