Sunday Jim had this idea that we had to drive to North Dakota to look at land. It was not how I wanted to spend my day, but that's ok. The thing was he was so tense. He was driving me nuts from the minute our feet hit the floor in the morning. He had these annoying little pings at me all day and I was tolerating it pretty well cuz' I knew he was over stimulated with his dreams of more land. Yuk. Now for all you newlyweds - after you get a couple of decades under your belt, hopefully, you arrive to a point in your relationship where you can annoy the hell out of each other and still love and respect them. Now this is where Dempsy comes in.

Demspy was like me. He would of much rather spent the day home than in a car. He was patiently riding along in the back seat in his crate. As we were driving through Fargo, ND I said, "I love you Dempsy!" .... Jim reached over and took my hand, looked at me and said, "I love you too." ....???? I thought to myself, "What? Are you serious? I was talking to the dog!! but then my mind thought .... Whatever works." We held hands for a few minutes. I just shook my head and giggled to myself. It was quite entertaining for me. I sorted though my feelings. Yes, I do love Jim. Could I possibly love Dempsy more? I think maybe my love for Dempsy is just alittle more unconditional. Moral of the story: When you express love - it's contagious.

Mmmm know what you mean.... I seem to always say, when talking to friends about my "family", Jock and my DH! Jocks name always seems to come out first... . Or perhaps I just like Jocks furry coat better than my DH's folickly challenged head :P

Neat story. Cairns inspire that kind of shared response in humans. In many ways our girls are a large part of the glue that keeps the relationship solid. We both share an intense love for them, share the responsibility of caring for them, enjoy the entertainment they provide, and in many ways, make them the focus of conversation much of the day. We are fortunate, the kids are grown and successfully pursuing their lives with their families, we are healthy and have few real concerns with life and Sammi and Bonnie have become the "children" for us. When you are younger life is so busy you never seem to have the time to slow down and enjoy your own children enough and they change so much over their years under our care--we had to constantly adjust, accept, tolerate, correct, endure all the stages with the kids, the money or lack there of was always at the back of the mind, the "am I doing it right?", the worry.
The Cairns aren't like that at all, once grown they are steady joys to be around, predicatable, fun, obediant, entertaining, topics of conversation--constant generators of affection. "I love you!" is not an uncommon phrase with the Cairns around--it gets expressed a lot.

Same here. It doesn't help that the little nymph is turning out to be a lap dog. I love my little Kelly.

Yes, I think it's a great story too. Glad that Demps is willing to share you with your hubby. You've got two great guys in your life!

Many years ago I knew an older couple who had a small lap dog, quite loved and spoiled by the wife. The husband used to kid her that, when he died, he wanted to be reincarnated as one of her dogs rather than as her husband...

That brightened my day! Cairns like to play the role of Cupid once in a while.
In my house it's just my husband, me and the dogs too. There are definitely days that I touch the dogs much more than I touch my annoying husband ... Just kidding honey!
