It's been a couple of years since I've been on this forum. I'm Booker's mom, and we just arrived home from the vets. I took him because he's been drinking excessively. Protein level very low and liver enlargement are the main problems. They sent his urine off.

Anyone else have/had this problem with their babies?

Thanks..........jan

somewhat, yes. i think you'll find a lot of us have had to deal with conditions that produced excessive water intake and enlarged liver, spleen, or kidney problems of one kind or another. the diagnostic trail of some of these problems can be long and twisty, so be patient and be persistent. you did the right thing by taking him to the vet. the urine test will probably show that he is not concentrating his urine very well, which unfortunately can be caused by a very wide range of conditions. keep him active and healthy, give him the best diet you can, and follow the paths that the doctors suggest. you will get an answer eventually. many, many of these problems are just a matter of management. i hope you get encouraging news soon.

As pk says, the causes of an enlarged liver can be many. I expect that the vet will get results from diagnostic tests that will narrow and/or pinpoint the possible cause. I'm hoping for the best for Booker. Let us know what you find out.
P.S. Booker's face in your avatar is adorable!

I will be keeping Booker in my prayers and hoping everything turns out okay. My little Min Pin, Ralphie, had elevated liver enzymes for years and lived to the ripe old age of 17 years, two months. Is Booker's liver actually enlarged? Is his little belly swollen? One way or another the vets will sort this out, and help Booker.

Jock has had elevated liver enzymes x5 and up to x15 for the past 4 yrs. He has no symptoms what so ever and continues to be a lively senior Cairn. Like PK said it involves a lot of tests and possibly $$ (at least from my experience). Wait to see what your vet says. I would encourage you to find a holistic veterinary practice. For us it worked wonders. Please keep us in the loop and good luck.
