Our little Cairn is scared of the funniest things. She hates the vacuum like most dogs but I have never seen a dog scared of a basket full of dirty clothes before. But only when I am carrying it to the laundry room, then she barks like crazy. If it is just sitting there she could care less. Same thing with trash cans. It cracks me up every time!

Are you Cairns scared of weird things too?

Packy is afraid of the dishwasher and hoses. Kirby is afraid of very little, but likes to play-bark at things that are different or not in their right spot. That's the bark with the butt up in the air and front legs down, tail wagging act, all while jumping sideways. Both dogs bark when the vacuum starts, but stop once it gets going.

Sassy barks when I remove a lid on a jar that has been vacuum sealed. That little pop gets her going. But fireworks don't bother her in the least. Go figure.

Pegi is afraid of anything really loud - lawn mowers, leaf blowers, vacuums....she'll shy away from them. When there are fireworks (like New Year's Eve) or thunder she runs around the house like a mad dog and barks. Our last dog, who was 120 lbs. would hide in the tub (opening the sliding doors herself) during thunderstorms. Who can figure them out?

Ivy, my little fearless cairn, is afraid of nothing. Then there's Mason, my 75lb. golden retriever, who is deathly afraid of storms. Ivy will sit and watch Mason when he is freaking out over the storms. I would swear Ivy thinks Mason is crazy. She gives him a strange look every time.

Well Mischa is afraid of the wind and fireworks, Rudy loves to stand with his face in the wind and New Years Eve he laid in his kennel snoring while the fireworks were going off.

Buffy is afraid of plastic bags rattling in the wind. Really. She makes Ziggy go check them out before she's satisfied that they're not dangerous.

Radar is afraid of the ceiling exhaust fan. When we turn the fan on he runs downstairs and won't come up until we shut it off. And Bailey...I can't think of anything he's afraid of.

Kelly all of the sudden seems to be afraid of a lot of stuff. Anything to do with food prep she growls and barks at, course that may not be fear she may be telling me to hurry up she is hungry. haha
The trash truck makes her ballistic, the trash can also. She doesn't seem to like empty plastic grocery bags, however if they have something in them then her head is in them too, nosey little girl. She is very funny.

Hub is afraid of anything that he can't predict will move or arrive.

Go for a walk. No problem. Go for a walk on garbage night? Well he wasn't expecting all those garbage cans and is petrified.

Sitting in a chair? He'll hang out. Sitting in an office chair with wheels? Petrified. In a wheel chair? No big deal, it always moves.

Very odd schema.

Out of the blue after living in this house for almost 11 yrs, Jock will notice something that has been there for ever and start growling and carrying on. Also when the DH pumps up a bicycle tire or gets his golf clubs out and does a few putts into a cup... well I am sure the next door neighbours hear him... a bit like the Cairn screech of death
