Pepper brought us a "Day After Christmas" present last night. I had let her out and she was waiting by the sliding door and eager to come in. When she came in (it was dark outside) I noticed what maybe was a "stick" or a small "rope" hanging out of her mouth. I called my husband to come and check out what Pepper was so delicately holding - could it be a rat's tail???? Lucky for me I had a towel in my hand to wipe Pepper's feet and guess what? It was a rat! She cheerily gave it up to us without a fuss, too! What a good girl she is!!! Just over 7 months and almost 12 pounds.

Woof! Malcolm here. Good job Pepper. Did you know if you put the rat under your pillow when you go to sleep in the morning there will be a treat. Better yet, put it under mommy's pillow.

Gus is so jealous!!! We had a plague of rats during the summer because of construction nearby...he tried his darnedest but so far his kill count is one newt and 3 garter snakes. Good work Pepper, and you spared your uprights the view of the death shake!!

I remembered your post from earlier this year and wondered how Gus fared with the rat invasion. Too bad he didn't get any.

Yay! Rats must die. They ate my Subaru right in my garage! Cassie and Leo salute you and welcome your efforts in the war of the rodents.

The Earthdog group is having an event on January 29 and there will be an "Introduction to Quarry" - I am hoping Pepper will be able to attend! She will probably run the other direction - saw a maintenance worked down at the dog park carrying a large plastic garbage can on his back and wearing a hooded sweatshirt - she barked, turned around and ran like the wind away from the scary monster. I could not believe how fast she disappeared.

Great job with the rat Pepper! Had to chuckle when you thought it was a little rope hanging out of her mouth. She will love being at the earthdog event. I let Demps out tonight in the snow and he immediately followed a scent. He went all around the house to the garage and he insists that I have a rodent .... I found some leavings, so he is right. Rats! It may even be a wood chuck - we have our work cut out for us. Wish Pepper was closer.

You're lucky she gave it up so easily. At our house the prey becomes a play item between two dogs... then once it's set down... they roll on it.

IGotAHome - You're terrible! LOL!

I would FREAK OUT, and probably throw out my bed if that ever happened to me!

Way to go Pepper (I think!) LOL!

That is Malcolm talking not me lol. Yes he is terrible. I've gone to bed and found a nice greasy bone under the pillow. Yuck, have to change the sheets and pillowcase. Malcolm thinks it's playtime so let's play tug of war with the blankets and pillows. Thank goodness for baby gates.
