We used to have a member map with over 100 pins, but the service providing the map went extinct. I installed a new "member map" application that is integrated with the forum. See it here: http://www.cairnterr...forum/membermap or click the map tab at the top of the page.

There was a lot of support for the old map and indeed it was neat to get a sense of the breadth and depth of our little community here. If you would like to participate by adding a pin for your location, please do! There is a button to add or update your location, above the upper right corner of the map.

Taking privacy into account, my suggestion would be to use a generic location such as a zip code, or perhaps some local landmark in your general area. For example, while our dogs do like to bark at the ducks and geese in a nearby park, I don't actually live in the middle of a small lake :P

Just for fun, I'll also add pins for the locations where the regional Cairn clubs hold their specialties, and for the big terrier shows that are Montgomery County and Great Western. If you're a member of one of the regional clubs, please update me with any corrections!

Have fun.

Just added my pin to the map. And I don't actually live in the middle of a street. :P

Heh. If I lived up north a bit I'd probably claim I lived in the Space Needle. (When testing the location-based breeder referral search I often put in landmarks and other famous place names - many of them work :P )

Ripley's favorite park is on there now! She loves to see the ducks.

This is a cool feature. And now I am beginning to understand why my wife and I had such a hard time finding a cairn terrier breeder! Though there are a few in northeastern Ohio and one in southern Michigan.

You probably know this but just be clear for anyone who dosen't - the member map here is only members of Cairn Talk (and even then, only those few who have self-selected to put a pin in) and has relatively little overlap with the CTCA membership map. The CTCA member map, and the subset of members who request to be listed for breeder referral, would be entirely different maps (although you would still find areas of clustering, and large empty areas).

The location-based breeder-referral search works from an entirely different database than Cairn Talk. Rather than viewing points on a map, you enter a location (basically any way that the google map API can recognize) and it will return hits within a defined radius.

Cool, I forgot about the member map. How long ago did it disappear? I'm gonna pin Currey's favorite pet store, where I hope to take him in a few days when he gets out of the hospital to start his new special doggy diet.

We're up to 38 pins. Thought I'd take a snapshot or two so we can check for progress later :-)
