[Milopup]

Need some advice on rain.

As several of you know, my pup and I just moved from the sunny, warm West Coast to the colder, wet East Coast. We have had severe thunderstorms all day, and my pup just can't go to the bathroom. I am not sure if he is just uncomfortable with the cold dampness, or if he is actually scared. He is peeing but just won't poop (sorry for being graphic), and I am worried.

Any suggestions?

I live on the East Coast, but I don't think it's a coastal problem Milopup. When I would put my other Cairn out to do her duty and it was raining, she'd get a drop on her head and then run back in. I'd tell her "No! Go Pee" and she'd run out real fast, pee and come back in. I knew what her #2 schedule was and I'd tell her, "Go outside and poop". I guess by repetition she knew my words and it might be a back and forth into the house and back out but she would do it.

Last night we had the remnants of Tropical Storm Jean and this little bugger of a Cairn wanted to go out constantly. I went through more towels! :

I also live on the east coast and through the rain yesterday my two were dying to go out but would look out the door see the rain and think again! So I too had to tell the "go pee pee and go poopy" they would run out do their thing and run back in. As long as your pup isn't having accidents in the house I wouldn't worry, sometimes they just don't want to get their feet wet but when its time to go they know what to do!

Eastcoast here too . . . I would say that in the beginning - Calli did NOT want to go out in the rain. Now I can barely get her back in - I end up leaving the glass door open so that she can come and go because I don't want to stand out there that long!!! When it is pounding - she hesitates but in the normal rain she loves it. It may be something that your pup will get used to.

Hi! I also live on the east coast - - Riley loves the thunderstorms - - but he just wants to go out and bark at the thunder - - not anything else!!! He will sometimes "do his thing" but usually waits until the storm goes by - - he hasn't had an accident during a storm - - does what he wants on his own time!!

Isn't it amazing that our "all is right with the world" sense is based on their pooping on schedule?

Rain bothers my older Cairn but Madison would go out in a tornado if she caught sight of a squirrel on the wall.

West Coast here. Duffy had his first rain the other day. He loved it. He was trying to bite the rain as it came down. I guess I am fortunate in that I have a little guy who can do his business in the rain and then want to play in the rain afterward.

I'm definitely thinking of getting those Muttluks for Scully for the snow because I just can't keep her in. She loves sticking her face in the piles of snow and would be out there hours on end.

I hesitated answering this post because you guys are going to think I'm crazy I'm in the southeast and we've had a couple near misses with all of these hurricanes. With all the rain of hurricane Ivan, I actually had a big beach umbrella that I took Hannah out with and stood under it with her in her baby pen. The other two went out in the rain, but I had to give Abbey a little shove. All of mine were taken out w/ an umbrella when they were puppies but now Kiara and Abbey will go out in the rain, but not Hannah. Abbey still hates to get her feet wet but I just tell her to hurry up and then dry her off. Like KayHarley's Madison, Kiara could be out in any type of weather but instead of chasing a squirrel, she'd be looking for those darn toads.

I'm still housebreaking Zelda but she hates the rain! The second we go outside and there is even the slightest drizzle of rain, she will high tail it back inside. So, needless to say, there have been more, than usual, amounts of accidents in the house But she doesn't mind wet grass Go figure.

toomanypaws your not crazy we all do a little extra for our little love bugs! My pups have sweaters and coats for the cold weather!! We also have a rain coat but neither really appreciates it!!

Thanks Chewybacca, my dh thought I was really overdoing it w/ spoiling them but hey, it keeps them from peeing in the house.

We're in the south so my girls are sissys when it comes to cold weather. We're planning a Christmas vacation w/ them in North Carolina and I'm already shopping for sweaters and pj's for them. I know they probably won't need pj's but it will sure make a cute picture.

Piper hates to go out in the rain. And with all the hurricane rain we've had this season so far, it's been hard. I literally have to go out with her and hold an umbrella over us so she can 'go'. She does not like to get her feet wet. Such a princess!!
