Observed last night in our local dog park: "Come dog! Come! Dog, come! Come here, dog!" (Me, rubbing my temples) (Dog not doing anything) Broken record obedience training. Owner has no treats, and dog probably just hears "blah, blah, blah, blah". Owner finally gets dog to come (sheer coincidence), then gets into "sit! sit, dog! dog, sit"! (dog does nothing).....*sigh*

Isn't it amazing. Poor dog. The dog doesn't have a chance. Obviously the owner didn't when they were a kid either.

I am a true believer in exposing your kids to animals. Let them learn how to take care of an animal and what the animal needs and expects in an owner. All animals. It's the best thing you can do to help the future generations of animals and humans alike.

We went to the state fair this weekend. I would say about 1/3 of the kids were afraid of the animals. In South Dakota you are allowed to take your dogs on the fair grounds on leash. Most of the owners had very well behaved dogs, but there were a few owners that (excuse my extreme) but I would of just taken a gun and shot. One in particular sticks out in my mind. Stupid looking young adult with a rott/bull dog ?- dog was aggressive, pulling on the leash and he thought he was pretty cool pulling him back, with his ciggy butt hanging from his mouth, shorts around his ankles, hat on backwards - ohhhhh. Please. Security should of asked him to leave the grounds and maybe they did. Anyway - ya. Some of the dog owners need to go to a basic dog understanding class before they are dog owners.

I'm with ya on that one. I do not take my dogs to the dog park due to the people that have no control at all over their dogs. Not the dog's fault at all, but still I don't want to take a chance. I teach basic obed. at a local all breed club- it is absolutely amazing as to how some dogs come in- lots of very bad habits to try to work out. I am always glad to see them come in and put the work into their dogs. Some times though, I have to take that deep breath too...
