I'm pretty sure Tanner's are just black. I tried to find a shade of brown, but all I could see were shiny black eyes with a quizzical expression, trying to figure out why I was staring so intently into them.

Eyes as black as charcoal, as dark as night, as dark as shoe polish, but as sweet as sugared apple sauce.

first instinct is the write "BLACKER THAN THE DEPTHS OF HELL", but they're actually dark brown.

Layla's are dark brown pools full of the devil. You always know when she is going to pounce when her eyes twinkle first.
