Hello Everyone,

I'm so glad I found this forum.

Our family is in search of our next Cairn. We have had Cairns continually since before I was born, in 1947. Our most recent one, Heather, just passed on. She was 16 years old and playing up until the last week.

My mother, Peggy, is quite impatient for her next one. We offer a loving, experienced home for the right dog. We have about an acre in the country near Chico, CA. It’s tightly fenced and shared outdoors by sheep, chickens, and rabbits. There are two young adult cats who are primarily indoors but have their own cat door. There is also a doggy door for daytime but the dog stays in after dark.

Our Vet can give references, though we saw him seldom. The groomer saw Heather every two weeks and can give you a better idea of the life she led... can we say “spoiled”?

We are looking for a dog, probably a bitch, well past teething and puppy pranks. My father, Saint, is unable to tolerate a hearing aid so he’s very loud. He’s on oxygen so drags around yards of tubing. Both my parents use walkers in the house so this critter must be nimble as well as brave. I will be “inheriting” this beast so it can not be very “Yappy”. (Heather was quite sane for a terrier and spoiled me.)

What we are hoping for is a 2 - 6 year old, neutered and healthy, that has been somewhat socialized, and housetrained. All the rest we can teach, obedience, snuggling, tricks, treats, games, and car rides.

Heather came from a loving mistress who developed cancer. A breeder in the ‘70s gave me Bittersweet, who was supposed to be a brood bitch but had whelping problems. A fantastic Shelty, Randy, who was a nervous wreck in the show ring enjoyed a long happy life here, too. We know these good dogs are out there that don’t do well in the high pressure life and need a single family to love them.

If you have a dog like that or know someone who does please contact them or me. My email is selewis@earthlink.net

Thank you very much.

Just be aware that the process of adoption with Col. Potter may take months, and
you probably won'tget whatever pup that moves you on their site. Every state has
rescue orgs. Just do a little homework using Google and suggestions
from the CTCA web site. Good luck in your search.

In Southern California, there's Southwest Cairn Rescue. Please visit their website to see if they have available placements. Good luck with your search.

Hi Sandy! Sorry I can't help but wanted to wave at you since you live so close by. One of my cairns is from a breeder in Idaho, the other from a rescue called Save A Dog that posted on Petfinder. If you want help in transport of a rescue I'm willing to assist. Have you contacted breeders in the area around Sacramento? There are quite a few outstanding cairns from there but I didn't get responses when I was looking so I assume there just weren't puppies at that time. I know of two breeders on facebook who live in that area if you want to send me a message I'll connect you to them.
