Can you say Terrier?

Not if you were a contestant on last nights episode of Jeopardy College Championship.

The category was about dogs. I don't remember the question, but it specifically stated Cairn with the hint that there was something to filled in after the word Cairn. I feel so sorry for these smarty pants college kids and their $100,000 a year educations not knowing what "we" know.

All three of them just stood there. Obviously none of them are going to become veterinarians.

I could not answer any of the other 59 questions myself, so what? That isn't the point. The point is they didn't know about Cairn Terriers and I did!!! Nanananananah.

Being a Cairns' human just puts you so much further ahead of those who aren't.

Rear Dew Claws

Hi ... Maggie Mae, the Cairn Terrorist, is 5 months old now. She was born with rear dew claws, which our vet tells us is not all that uncommon. He suggests that when we have her spayed, we also have the rear claws removed. They appear to have no bone structure attaching them to the leg bones. Any thoughts on this? We don't want to cause her unnecessary pain, yet, the vet feels that since she runs around so much, the could get tangled in stuff, etc etc.

Are they really THIS smart?!

Divot isn't allowed on my bed. It's the one place in the house Hubby insists on no dogs. Divot has never pushed the issue.

Last night, my kids asked to cuddle in my bed for a bit and watch a show on the laptop together since they aren't feeling well (terrible colds and coughs, ugh!). Of course Hubby and I snuggled them in for a bit.

Well, as my son hopped up in the bed, Divot timed his jump perfectly and landed with him, under my son's blanket. He quietly settled in with just a hint of his nose sticking out. The kids and I were giggling, but Hubby was clueless.

It really appeared as if Divot had it all planned out!

Looking to Adopt Cairn Puppies in DE/ PA /NJ /MD /VA area

My husband and I recently lost our beloved Cairn, Kody. He was a beautiful wheaton with a huge heart and a wonderful personality who filled our home with activity and lots of love. We always felt that he was lonely after our daughters went off to college, and often wondered if we should have adopted his brother with him when he was a puppy. Now we are looking for a new Cairn puppy to love, and have decided that we want to adopt two brothers so they will always have each other to cuddle and play together.

We have a trip planned for late March, so we are hoping to bring our new boys home sometime in April or later. Please contact me if you have, or know anyone who has a litter that will be available this spring. We live in Wilmington, Delaware, but are willing to drive several hours or more if necessary to find the perfect match!

Thank you!

Earthdog question

Does anyone know where I can find pictures online of the Masters baffle? I have read the description, but would like to see some pictures. I am trying to concoct something at home to practice. The closest place to me that has tests has a strange baffle and Shiner can't seem to figure it out. He had done the baffle at other places without a problem, but he has never gotten to the rats at this place. I hate to miss their tests and don't mind gambling on the rest of masters, but this just seems like a waste of money unless we can fix this problem.

New To Cairns- Circling Problem

Hi Everyone-
I am new to this forum so in advance my heartfelt thanks for any insights you can provide this new Mommy of Moose. He is a 12-18-month neutered rescue. He is fast,d agile and very social with other dogs and surprisingly quiet and cat-like around the house and in the car. We have only had him about ten days. One thing that has me very concerned is he seems to go into a trance-like state and starts chasing his hindquarters and tail while barking and growling really loud (so much noise from a 13 pound boy!). I have usually been able to distract him but then he will stand in the same spot for as long as ten minutes and the only thing moving is his head. He is seemingly in a trance.
His foster Mom told me he loves squeaky toys so I bought him a few but they seems to be a trigger for this behavior. So I bought him a non-squeaking Kong to chew on. After a few chews the same reaction. Most folks have told me not to woryy- ignore it or distract him and it will pass. It just freaks me out because I have never seen anything like this except in really sick animals. We started by taking him in for a check up but the only thing they found was slightly blocked anal glads so they were expressed.
Could this be anxiety from moving in with new parents? We give him LOTS of excercise and there are no children in our household.

Thanks again!

Neutered

Well Rudy went through it yesterday and I have a few questions. Had to go get him an E collar last nigh since his focus was on the incision. So does this E collar need to stay on for the 7 to 10 days until the stitches come out? They gave him a pain shot that is suppose to last 72 hours? I have not heard of this before and if it is true it does not work he cries every time he moves. Trying to keep him still is turning out to be another problem, he thinks all is well.

I have had many dogs in my life and really did not have to worry much after the first couple days of being home, now I feel like I need to watch him every second with the two pages of rules I got. Is it over kill or do I need to keep him pretty much crated for the next 7 days? Things have changed in the last 15 years since the last time I have had to deal with this.

Jack

My name is Wesley and my wife and I live in North Carolina. Our Cairn Terrier is named Jack. He was born May 30, 2011 and came home with us on July 10. I have been reading these forums for several months and gleaned much helpful advice for the raising of our boy. I have decided it is time to introduce Jack to the good people here. In the first picture, Jack was on one of his first outdoor adventures. He couldn't climb over six inches of landscape timbers. In the second picture Jack was traveling with the wife. If anyone is familiar with The Varsity in Atlanta, he got snuck in. He has grown a lot since then and is turning into a great little companion. He likes to get dirty. He likes to play with the neighbor's big dog. Mostly, he is just a good looking, lovable little buddy to have around.

Yesterday was gloomy, overcast, drizzly day here. We took the oppuritunity to take Jack on a two hour hike through a large expanse of undeveloped land nearby where he loves to run of leash. we try to get him there at least once a week. He loves it as you can se in the video below. Hope I did OK for an intro.
